CHRISTY
ANNE HAMILTON received
her Master of Music in vocal performance from Portland State University. A student
of Christine Meadows, she was first place winner of the Oregon District Metropolitan
Opera auditions in November 2003, and represented Oregon in the Seattle regional
auditions in February 2004.
ChristyAnne
was recently featured in a Young Artist's Recital for the Portland Opera Guild.
She will sing the Beethoven Egmont in October with the Portland Chamber Orchestra,
and Handel's Messiah in December with the Walla Walla Symphony.
With
the PSU Opera, she sang Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus under the direction of world-famous
Tito Capobianco. The Oregonian stated that she "blended vocal strength
with warm femininity and wily intelligence." Other roles at PSU include
Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni in which the opera theater won First Place in the
National Opera Association Competition with artistic direction of Sherril Milnes,
Tisbe in La Cenerentola with artistic direction of Marilyn Horne, and Lady Saphir
in Patience.
ChristyAnne
sang the role of Hansel in Hansel and Gretel with Vancouver Children's Opera
Company to expose youth to opera in December 2003. At the Astoria Music Festival
she sang Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro in summer 2003, and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte
in the Festival's 2004 summer season. At Lakewood Theater she sang Joanne in
Godspell for which the cast was nominated a "Drammy" for best ensemble.
At
Portland State University, Ms. Hamilton was the recipient of a Graduate Laurels
Tuition Remission Scholarship, the Gibner King Scholarship, a Janine B. Cowles
Scholarship, and a James F. Miller Scholarship. While at PSU, she has won the
Louis Lang auditions, the Violet Lang auditions, First Place for college females
in the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition, and the Monday
Music Club competition in Portland. She participated in the Portland Opera Performance
Institute for two seasons, singing Mimi in scenes from La Boheme, and Violetta
in scenes from La Traviata. She is a graduate of Estacada High School where
she was named Music Student of the Year in 1997.
